Bersih asked to obtain relevant clearance

KUCHING: Police have asked Bersih 3.0 protest organisers to obtain the relevant clearance to use the Kuching Waterfront or Sarawak Tourism Complex.

In a letter to Bersih Sarawak chairman Awang Abdullah Awang Nasar, Kuching district police deputy chief Supt Pauzi Bujang advised organisers to obtain written permission from the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).

“If you are unable to get permission … you must find an alternative venue that is strategic and suitable after taking several things into account,” said Pauzi.

The conditions include not disrupting public peace and order, not disrupting or blocking traffic, not breaking any existing laws, and limiting the rally to the allocated venue only.

The organisers are also accountable for any unwanted incident occurring during the rally.

Pauzi concluded his letter, which was made public by Bersih, by asking Awang Abdullah to keep his department posted upon receiving permission or if there is any change of venue.
