Five projects totalling RM26m for Saratok

WARM WELCOME: Kabong residents turning out in droves to bid Najib a warm welcome.

KABONG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is on a three-day to the state announced five projects costing a total of RM26.45 million for the Saratok parliamentary constituency during his brief stop over here yesterday afternoon.

The five projects are the construction of roads to padi plantations in Lubok Nibong costing RM950,000; upgrading of Jalan Ban Hulu to the Drainage and Irrigation Station, Sessang  Phase 1 (RM5 million); road linking Kampung Melango Hilir, Saratok to Pagan and the nearby housing estate (RM2.5 million); maintenance of drainage in Kampung Nyabor and Kabong (RM200,000).

Najib also disclosed that the upgrading works on Jalan Ulu Krian and Jalan Ulu Awik costing RM18 million he previously promised had already been put on tender.

Najib who spoke at a meet-the-people session said the Barisan Nasional (BN) had always made it a point to honour all the promises it had made to the people.

“The BN government never forgets to fulfil its promises and it is proven by its effort to expedite the delivery of development projects to the rural areas with a mechanism called National Key Results Area (NKRA),” he said, to the applause about 3,000 people present to welcome him.

On Sarawak and Sabah’s need for more infrastructure such as roads, he said he had during his last three years as premier approved many projects in the two states.

He hoped that the people in these two states would continue to support the BN government in the coming 13th general election to ensure the continuity of these development programmes in their areas.

Also present at the event were Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud; Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and  Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Douglas Unggah Embas.
