The Motocross Novice race saw Awang Rahman Zakaria from Miri ploughed through the mud-covered track to finish first on the podium leaving host rider Jamal Lamit and Tuaranian Oliver Ladsin a lap behind to claim the second and third spot.

Local competitors-Rogie Saui and Desmond Teo Nihung triumphed in the Scrambler Classic category while Mirian Zakaria Mat came in third. William Sinos the President of Sarawak Motocross Club said the race was the opening round of the National Motocross Challenge 2012 to be held in Gong Badak Terengganu.

“The Limbang competition was totally challenging, the riders have to endure muddy and dangerous track especially after the heavy rains, I was hospitalised for a shoulder injury inflicted by an accident when negotiating a sharp bend,” William told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Bukit Kota assemblyman, Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail revealed that the temporary track would be moved to a permanent track, either to the old Limbang’s airstrip or near Ranggau residential area.

“Work on the motocross track will start after receiving approval from the Land and Survey Department,” he said at the closing cum prize giving ceremony yesterday.

Dr Rahman hoped that Limbang would be able to host major motocross championship as it is close to neighbouring Brunei Darussalam.

“Limbang’s unique location will attract competitors from Brunei, Sabah and even Indonesia to participate,” he added. The two-day event was organised by Sarawak Automotive Racing Association (SARSA), in collaboration with Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation (KPSU).
