SMK Jalan Arang holds Science and Technology Carnival

KUCHING: SMK Jalan Arang here successfully organised the Science and Technology Carnival for Kuching Division which ran from April 18 to 19.

The competition was divided into five categories – Saintis Muda (Young Scientists), Solar Car, Solar Boat, Efficiency Energy Cooking (EEC) and Aerospace.

Altogether, 137 teams from 37 schools took part in the competition.

The objective of the carnival was to encourage students to be creative and critically-minded in inventing new technology and equipments in the five categories.

In the Aerospace Category (Parachute), the top prize was won by SMK Padungan, second (SMK Sg Maong) and third (SMK Siburan). All of them received a trophy and certificate each.

In the same category (Target) SMK Bau was adjudged winner while SMK Batu Kawa and SMK Sg Maong came in second and third respectively.

SMK Sg Maong was declared the team champion in this category, followed by SMK Batu Kawa and SM Lodge.

Under Efficiency Energy Cooking (EEC) category, SMK St Joseph was named winner while second and third places went to SMK St Mary and Kolej DPAH Abdillah respectively.

SMK Grren Road won first prize in the Saintis Muda category, followed by SMK Batu Kawa and SMK Batu Lintang in second and third place.

Meanwhile in the Solar Car category, SMK St Thomas came in first, with SMK Tunaz and SMK Matang Jaya grabbing the second and third place respectively.

The fifth category – Solar Boat – was won by SMK Batu Lintang, with SMK St Teresa coming in second and SMK Santubong grabbing the third spot.

In her speech, SMK Jalan Arang principal Fong Yut Kuen thanked all the schools for taking part in the carnival and congratulated the victorious teams. She also extended her thanks to the organising committee, judges and students involved in the carnival.

All the prizes were given out by Kuching district education officer Maimunah Bujang.

During her speech, she reminded all the students to master Science and Technology, besides congratulating Fong, her staff and students of SMK Arang for successfully organising the carnival.
