KUCHING: A traffic light breakdown exercise was carried out by the Emergency Response Power Breakdown (Traffic Light Junction Management) Unit of DBKU Traffic Section recently at four locations along Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Satok Flyover, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce and Jalan Badrudin.

The main objective of the exercise was to ensure that public complaints about traffic light breakdowns at the four locations, which could cause traffic to snarl, can be relayed directly to its 24-Hour Service Centre through the DBKU hotline number.

In a statement issued yesterday, DBKU said once the calls were received, traffic wardens should arrive at the affected locations within 15 minutes to guide vehicles while waiting for the traffic police to arrive.

The exercise, which was introduced in 2009, is used to test the level of competency of the DBKU Traffic Warden Unit in handling incidents of traffic light breakdown under its jurisdiction.

The exercise yesterday was headed by the coordinator for the Emergency Response Power Breakdown team, Mohd Suhardi Rakawi.

The statement added traffic jams would normally occur when road users were unaware of traffic light breakdowns, which sometimes resulted in road accidents.

The public are urged to call DBKU hotline number at 082-446644 if they come across any traffic light breakdown.
