MIRI: Mirians have been urged to make an entry into the Malaysian Book of Records (MYBOR) by creating ‘The Largest Line Dance’ in the country to mark Miri City Day on May 20.
Currently, the record is held by a state in the Peninsula by getting 8,000 people to take part in the dance.
“We need the co-operation and support from all Mirians, be they young or old. Come in full force to Stadium Miri to make the significant history and record for the city,” said Mayor Lawrence Lai at a meeting with representatives from schools and Bumiputera organisations in Miri yesterday.
“We are serious in creating a new record in Miri which will be enshrined in Malaysian Book of Records. It will be the pride of the whole of Miri and its people,” he said further, likening the feat as another way to promote Miri as a tourist and business destination.
Lai said participants would be given a T-shirt and food coupon each.
To ensure smooth registration of participants, he said counters would be open at the east and west wings of the stadium.
“The more participants the better as it would give us a bigger chance to create the new record. Make it as a family affair if possible as it is assured to be a fun-filled Sunday morning outing for the family. It will also foster better understanding and appreciation of our culture and heritage, especially for the youths,” said Lai.
Meanwhile, Lai who is also the event advisor, disclosed that the event was also a part of community development to promote and preserve the cultures and heritage of the local communities.
