435 people fined for smoking at designated non-smoking areas

KUALA LUMPUR: Four hundred thirty-five people were fined for smoking in government buildings designated as non-smoking areas during an operation carried out on April 24 and 25 by the Health Ministry.

Health Department Director-General Datuk Dr Hassan Abdul Rahman said 933 government offices and premises, including government agencies were inspected during the operation.

“Offenders who do not settle their fine before the stipulated time period will be charged in court and face a fine of up to RM10,000 or jailed not more than two years,” he said in a statement here yesterday. — Bernama
