KUCHING: Golden Churn butter is now declared Halal by the state Islamic authorities after the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) had earlier certified it as such.

The butter was declared non Halal in August 2011.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman yesterday said that inspection had been done thoroughly on the Golden Churn factory in New Zealand in February and it was revealed that the butter was prepared without pig DNA.

The business of several kek lapis Sarawak in the state was badly affected when Golden Churn butter belonging to Ballantyne Food Pty New Zealand was recalled after Aug 16, 2011.

Subsequently, they had to perform the cleansing ritual in their kitchen in accordance with Islamic teaching called the ‘Menyamak’.

Daud said it was now safe for Muslims to use Golden Churn butter.
