7 teams to compete in junior swimming meet

GETTING READY: Seven teams have confirmed participation in the much awaited 3rd KRP Junior Swimming Championship to be held at the KRP Swimming Pool, Miri on May 12 from 8am to 6.30pm with defending champion, Miri Amature Swimming Association (MASA) highly regarded as the team to beat.

MIRI: Seven teams including one from Bintulu have confirmed participation in the third Kelab Rekreasi Petroleum (KRP) junior swimming championship to be held at the KRP Swimming Pool on May 12 from 8am to 6.30pm.

The participating teams include this year’s host KRP Club, Miri Amature Swimming Association (MASA), Gymkhana Club Miri (GCM), Kidurong Club Bintulu, Kelab Akuatik SK Jln Bintang, SJKC Chung Hua Pujut Swimming Club, Tenby International School.

KRP coach, Mohdf Faizal @ Thomas Abdullah said the team is expecting stiff competition from others particularly swimmers from Bintulu and Tenby International School.

“This will be the first time swimmers from Kidurong Club Bintulu and Tenby International School are invited to take part the tournament and thus we expect stiff competition…hopefully the competition could further enhance the standard among the swimmers and promote the sport locally,” said Faizal on the event in which MASA is the defending champion.

He said this is in line with the objectives of having the competition to promote cordial relations among the competitors who are from different schools and clubs as well as to promote KRP to other Shell and Petronas staff.

The one-day event it is divided into Boys and Girls categories and medals will be awarded to individual winners including the best boy and best girl award for each group and certificate of participation.
