MUAR: Efforts to upgrade the quality of learning in schools must be continued although the country’s access to education is on par with developed countries, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Deputy Prime Minister said this could be achieved with the cooperation of parents and teachers.

“The country has provided the best education infrastructure for the people,” he said at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) excellence awards ceremony at SK Kampung Kemasih, Grisek near here yesterday.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, cited SK Ulu Ibai, Sarawak as a good example as the rural school was chosen as a High Performance School (SBT).

He said SK Ulu Ibai which is only equipped with basic schooling facilities managed to achieve outstanding examination results.

“What is more amazing is that SK Ulu Ibai has forged partnership with schools in United Kingdom and Singapore in an effort to provide quality learning for its students.”

The success achieved by SK Ulu Ibai in providing high quality learning to students was made via close cooperation between teachers and parents.

At the event, Muhyiddin presented RM200,000 allocation to Sekolah Agama Temiang school building committee chairman Datuk Samat Aripin.

He also urged people in rural areas to take advantage of the Rural Transformation Programme implemented by the government.

“People in rural areas must grab opportunities under the Rural Transformation Programme to upgrade their economic status while raising their income,” he said at SME Bank function with the community of Kampung Kurnia Sakti, Kundang Ulu. — Bernama
