KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) was launched yesterday to encourage and improve knowledge, study and practice in interior designing in Malaysia.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Works, Datuk Himmat Singh said the formation of MIID was the result of a merger of two independent bodies which previously represented interior designers in Malaysia namely the Institute of Interior Designers of Malaysia (IPDM) and the Malaysian Society of Interior Designers (MSID).

“With the amendments to the Architects Act (117) 1967 in April 2007, interior designers had been recognised as professionals upon registration with the Board of Architects Malaysia and supervised by the Works Minister.

“The MIID is also the sole organisation representing all interior designers who are registered as professionals, academicians and graduates in this field,” he said at the MIID launching ceremony, here. — Bernama
