SINGAPORE: The Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) will work strongly with the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to combat cybercrime threats, said Malaysia’s Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar.

“We agreed on many areas (of cooperation), one is transnational crime, we will work together on transnational crime.

“We also understand the present landscape, (and therefore) we have to work strongly on cybercrime, that is where I think the threat will come in future,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

Ismail, who is on a two-day visit here was earlier conferred the Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang (Distinguished Service Order) by Singapore President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam at an investiture ceremony in the Istana here.

The IGP said he was looking upon the SPF to be some kind of a referral to the Malaysian police to update itself in the context of work procedures and how to improve the delivery system to the public.

“I believe we should be able to learn something that SPF can offer us because we are targeting the Kuala Lumpur police to be world-class policing in the years to come,” he said.

Earlier, Ismail made a courtesy call on Acting Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean. — Bernama
