44 out of 200 applications to open KR1M shops meet requirements

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (MDTCC) has received 200 applications from individuals interested in operating the 1Malaysia People’s Shop (KR1M).

However, its minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, only 44 applications met their requirements and were eligible to set up shop starting June.

Under Model 3 KR1M, KR1M operators need to have their own working capital while the government will assist in terms of renovation and shop layout.

“We will go through a screening process to choose those who are eligible. Response from the public has been positive on expanding KR1M outlets.

“This is a good opportunity for the public to have a business involving  KR1M, and the government is always giving the public ways to open up their own business,” he told reporters after launching the National Consumer Month 2012, here yesterday.

So far, there are 33 KR1M outlets around the country and the ministry targets 52 more outlets by year-end. — Bernama
