PUTATAN: The fire victims in Kampung Meruntum here are grateful for the welfare assistance they have received from several community leaders including elected representatives.

On Thursday, they received aid from Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin and a day later, Putatan Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigo handed over a personal donation to the 15 heads of families who lost their homes in the fire.

The victims said that the donation and aid would help ease their burden after they lost almost everything in the fire that broke out at about 8am on Wednesday morning.

For Emma Milul, 43, she is very grateful for the assistance and extended her appreciation to the elected representatives and those who came to their aid.

This showed their concern for the people, she said when met after the donation presentation by Mojigoh on Friday.

Cradling her three-month-old baby in her arms, Emma was also thankful that no one was hurt in the incident.

Another victim, Dam Jubahan, 37, said that his loss incurred in the incident is estimated at about RM60,000.

“I was unable to save anything except for my family’s identification papers,” he said, adding that he would try to rebuild a house at the same location.

Meanwhile, Mojigoh said that it was the responsibility of elected representatives to go down to the ground and help the people in times of their need.
