MIRI: A 52-year-old man sustained minor injuries on both his wrists and arms after being confronted by a snatch thief at a petrol station in Morsjaya yesterday morning.

The victim, who wished to be known only as “Ong”, related that he was refilling his Toyota Hilux when out of a sudden a car with two men in it showed up and parked right beside his vehicle.

“One of the two strangers quickly dashed out of the car, entered my vehicle and snatched my handphone.

“As he was about to flee, I managed to grab hold of the suspect and snatched his (suspect) sling bag.

“I demanded that he return my handphone in return for his (suspect) sling bag.

“He then quickly threw away my handphone, grab the sling bag from me, jumped into their car and sped off,” said Ong, who was on his way to Ulu Baram to deliver several water tanks.

Ong said he was hurt when the suspect stabbed him on his arms and wrists with a small scissor during the commotion.

The 8am incident attracted customers and staff of the petrol station, who later gave Ong a helping hand.

Ong later lodged a police report at the Miri Central Police Station.
