KUALA LUMPUR: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has submitted the names of 422 company directors to the Immigration Department for the period January-March 2012 to prevent them from leaving the country before settling the arrears on EPF contributions for their employees.

EPF Public Relations general manager Nik Affendi Jaafar said this showed the EPF’s determination to protect the retirement savings of its contributors.

“The EPF is taking stern measures including imposing levy and taking civil action against the employers and company directors who fail to discharge their responsibilities pertaining to the EPF,” he said in a statement.

For the same period, 160 employers who did not contribute to the EPF were fined by the court. The statement said 255 civil suits and 892 criminal cases had been filed with the courts against employers who had not paid the monthly EPF contributions for their workers. – Bernama
