S’wak set four-gold target for Sukma weightlifters

KUCHING: Sukma weightlifters are advised to build up on their recent success at the Under-21 Sarawak Invitational Weightlifting Championship.The head of Sarawak Sukma contingent Datuk Lee Kim Shin revealed the state was targeting four gold medals in the weightlifting category.

“Weightlifting is one of the events that offer many gold medals and we want to win as many gold as possible from this event,” he said.

Sarawak will be sending six male and three female weightlifting participants to Sukma XV.

They are Carmila Runggit (under 94kg category), Eric Kana (52kg) and Elbee Crismer (62kg) while Felicia Muyat (63kg), Sylvia Buda (69kg) and Jelinie Empera (75kg above) are female participants.

“I will do my best to win gold for the state, during the last 2008 Sukma in Terengganu, I finished fourth,” said Felicia who is from Miri.

Sarawak will only compete in 12 out of 32 gold medals offered in weightlifting. Lee, who is the Assistant Minister of Sports, was inspecting the weightlifting training session and facilities at Arena Sukan Weightlifting Training Centre, Tabuan Jaya.

Also present was the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) deputy director Frederick Tan and chef de mission for Sukma XV weightlifting contingent Gerald Jabu and head coach Edmund Yeo.
