SMK Meradong gain early lead in U19 Indoor Hockey

KUCHING: SMK Meradong have shown strong intentions of winning the 1st Under 19 Indoor Hockey League by taking a 10-point lead in the competition that commenced on May 5.
The school from Sarikei have played ten games and won seven, drew two and lost one to accumulate 23 points in the 15-team league that is played over weekends and end on May 20.
SMK Meradong flew off to an impressive start by thumping SM Sains C (Alpha) 11-0 in the opener and held 1-1 by SM Sains A (Delta) in the second match.
They beat SMK Muara Tuang A 3-0, SMK Muara Tuang B 3-0, SM Sains B (Gamma) 2-0, beat Asajaya A 2-0, blanked Asajaya B 6-0, edged SMK Penrissen No.1 B 3-2 and drew 1-1 with SMK Penrissen No.1 A. Their only defeat thus far is 1-2 to SMK Penrissen No.1 C last Sunday.
SMK Meradong have played more games as they are the only team outside Kuching and Samarahan taking part in this tournament.
Second in the table standings are SMK Penrissen No. 1 B who have 13 points from six matches played while SMK Penrissen No. 1 A are third with 11 points after six matches.
In fourth place are SM Sains A who have 11 points after playing four matches and a point behind them are SMK Muara Tuang C who have only played four matches.
Sixth to 13th teams are SMK Penrissen No. 1 C, SMK Asajaya A, SMK Muara Tuang B, SMK Muara Tuang A, SMK Paku, SM Sains B, SMK Asajaya B and SM Sains C.
Two other teams SMK Lake A and SMK Lake B will start their campaigns against SMK Muara Tuang A and SMK Asajaya A this Saturday.
The two matches are also the first and second matches to be played tomorrow in the competition that also involve SMK Asajaya B, SMK Muara Tuang B and C, and SMK Paku.
On Sunday, SMK Lake A and B, SM Sains A, B and C as well as SMK Penrissen No.1 A, B and C will be locked in the battle to secure more points.
A total of 112 matches will be played in this competition based on round-robin league format.
