KENINGAU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, especially Umno, must work hard in ensuring the national coalition will retain power in the 13th general election which is expected to be held any time from now.

Keningau Umno Youth chief Azman Haji Ruslan said winning in the next general election should be the party’s top agenda.

He said although Umno was always ready to face the general election, the party could not afford to underestimate the opposition.

“We cannot take victory for granted because it will not come easily without the commitment and hard work of all Umno members and supporters,” he said in his speech at the opening of Keningau Umno Group Branches Conference here on Monday.

“Based on the current political scenario, I am confident that the people’s support for BN-Umno is still strong and I believe that the people, especially in Sabah, will continue to give their mandate to the BN-Umno to govern the country,” said Azman.

Assistant Rural Development Minister Datuk Haji Sairin Karno officiated at the conference.

Azman said with the strong spirit of cooperation and camaraderie among members of the BN, their struggles would continue to be relevant that will benefit all, especially the current and future generations in the country.

Azman also said the Bersih 3:0 rally had exposed the weakness of the opposition for they were running out of ideas and were more concerned about seeking popularity aimed at misleading the people.
