SPR may extend campaign period for PRU-13

KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) has not ruled out the possibility of extending the campaigning period for the 13th general election to beyond 10 days.

Its deputy chairman Datuk Wira Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said this was based on the commitment of EC to provide a minimum campaign period of 10 days, for a general election, which was longer than the seven days stipulated previously.

“There is a possibility, EC may allow a campaign period of 15, 16 or 17 days. But, all will be decided by EC when a special meeting on an official campaign period is held, after the dissolution of Parliament by the Prime Minister,” he said when interviewed in the programme ‘Dalam Radar’ produced by Bernama Radio24, here, on Monday.

He said, however, EC had to be careful in deciding on the duration of the campaign period to ensure the general election would proceed as planned. — Bernama
