RM7 mln for public infrastructure projects in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: The Sabah government has given an additional allocation of RM1 million, bringing the total to RM7 million, for the implementation of the Public Infrastructure Maintenance (PIA) projects and Basic Infrastructure (PIAS) projects in Sandakan this year.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the additional allocation was for

the implementation of 50 mini PIA and PIAS projects worth RM20,000 each, which would be awarded directly to the contractors who had not received any of the projects.

Musa also called on the contractors awarded with the projects to work in an efficient manner and to complete the projects on schedule.

“This is important to poRtray a good image and credibility of the government in developing and providing basic infrastructure for the people in the state,” he told reporters here.

Musa also urged local authorities and the Sabah State Development Office to monitor the implementation of the projects to ensure that they would achieve the desired target.

Earlier when visiting the People Housing Programme (PPR) housing area at Jalan Rancangan Sungai Manila, the Chief Minister said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government would continue to provide housing facilities for the people under the PPR and the Hardcore Poor Housing Programme (PPRT).

He said the homeless would stand to benefit the most from the facilities provided by the government under the programme.

“The houses will be allocated to those who have met several conditions and I hope they will take the responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of the area and to live in harmony with each other,” he said, adding that the government would continue to provide similar facilities for the people.

Musa also visited the Libaran community sports complex and the PPR project site at Pekan Muhibbah, Mile 10.

Present were Gum-Gum assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Mohd Edris, Sandakan Municipal Council president Datuk Ir James Wong and other local leaders.
