KUCHING: Six members of the state Sukma bowling squad will participate in the Singapore Open from June 1-7 as part of their exposure matches.
The six national juniors are Chong Jun Foo, Jonathan Ding Sagan, Daniel Tan, Muhd Syafiq Sajeli, Christopher Tiong and Jackelyn Ng and they will be competing under the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress banner.
This was disclosed by Sarawak Sukma XV bowling squad Robert Lu to The Borneo Post yesterday.
He added that the state bowling squad had a good exposure outing at the recent 35th Canon Malaysian International Open that ended at Sunway Mega Lanes, Sunway Pyramid in Kuala Lumpur last weekend.
Lu was happy with the performance of the 12-member team especially Nerosha Keligit who won the Girls Graded title.
“It was an eye-opener for them to play in different kind of competitions, both on long oil and short oil and it was tough for them as they are competing against the rest of the world,” Lu told.
He said although the state keglers did not win anything from the rest of the categories, most of them qualified to the finals except for Dayang Aida Natasha and Syazwani Sajeli.
“There’s a lot of work to be done if they want to excel in the bowling competition at Sukma XV in Kuantan, Pahang this July,” said Lu, who is also Amateur Bowling Association of Sarawak (Abas) vice president.
He was pleased that the Sarawak State Sports Council had engaged experienced Canadian kegler and ball specialist Alan Chan as the technical advisor to guide and prepare the state bowling team for Sukma XV.
“Chan was with us when we emerged the overall champions in bowling at Sukma XIII in Melaka two years ago,” he said.
