Six motorists fined for drunk driving

KOTA KINABALU: Six local men were fined by the Traffic Court here yesterday for driving their vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.

John Christopher Loukin, 36, was fined RM5,500, in default, two months’ jail; Mohd Manuel Alimin, 31, received a RM4,500 fine, in default, one month’s imprisonment; Chin Yaw Yin, 27, was fined RM2,500, in default, one month’s jail; Join Masli, 24, was fined RM2,000, in default, one month’s imprisonment while Roland Anthony, 22, and Saw Seng Kiat, 36, were fined RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively with two weeks’ jail in default.

The six motorists pleaded guilty before magistrate Norhamizah Shaiffuddin to each of their charges framed under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides for a maximum fine of RM6,000 or with a jail term of up to 12 months, upon conviction.

Traffic prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Wilynton Enchana Watt told the court that all the accused were arrested during separate operations in Jalan Bundusan, Jalan Papar, Jalan Penampang and Jalan Kota Kinabalu between December 4, 2011 and April 8.

Norhamizah also ordered Loukin’s ‘P’ licence to be cancelled.
