KENINGAU: Assistant Rural Development Minister Datuk Haji Sairin Karno has asked the contractor of a religious secondary school building here to carry out quality work.

He said he was not satisfied with the work on the school building at Kampung Ria that was completed on April 29, as it was not appropriate for students and also the school.

“After a visit and a short inspection, we found that many areas in the school were not built in accordance with the specifications set, and this clearly showed the contractor was not doing a proper job,?he told reporters after a visit to the building here yesterday.

Sairin, who is also Liawan assemblyman, said the fence installed around the school was not high enough and there was no barbed wire to deter thieves or intruders from getting into the area.

He said animals such as dogs or strangers could easily enter through the fence.

“No mosque building, guardhouse, wall for foodstalls and appropriate boundary to separate the male and female student hostels, and there are more deficiencies in the newly opened school,” he said.

Sairin requested the contractor to return and finish the works properly before any untoward incidents that could endanger the students, teachers and school staff.

Meanwhile, a teacher representing the school principal, Ramzi Yusuf, said there were 115 students studying in Form One and Two in the school.

He said all the students had moved to the current location since April 29 and the five teachers were living in the hostels with them because there were no quarters.

Ramzi said the schools also needed more teachers to accommodate the number of subjects taught, and enough lights for security reason.

Among other facilities still lacking in the school were a school board, an additional security personnel, stores building, sports courts and fields, iron grilles for doors and windows, and mosquito nets for the hostel windows.

Sairin promised to bring the matter to the appropriate department so that all the listed demands by the school management could be considered for approval.
