DROWNED: Civil Defence Department personnel arrive at the jetty with Tiong’s body.

KUCHING: The body of a mechanic who went missing on Tuesday afternoon following a jetski mishap along the Sarawak River, was found yesterday morning several hundred metres from where he disappeared.

The discovery was made around 7am when a fisherman from a nearby village spotted the body of a man floating in the water and immediately notified members of a search party who had been scouring the river since 6am.

The underwear-clad body was brought to a jetty beneath the Satok Bridge where waiting family members confirmed it to be that of 38-year-old mechanic Tiong Yeh Hua.

Police were on hand to transport the body to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post mortem, and have classified the incident as sudden death.

Meanwhile, district police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad yesterday advised boat users and watersports enthusiasts to always take safety precautions such as wearing life jackets during the course of their activities, adding he had been informed the deceased had not been wearing a life jacket when the mishap occurred.
