KUCHING: Kolej Sunway Kuching (KSK) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Institute of Professional Development, Open Univerisity Malaysia (IPD-OUM), marking another milestone of smart partnership between the university and the local college in Kuching.

“This is an opportunity to mutually establish affiliations and cooperation with the objective to enhance the capability and intellectual development of education and training programmes.

“In addition, it is also to train and produce knowledge and skilled workforce for the state of Sarawak,” said Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali, the president and vice chancellor of OUM.

Under the proposed collaboration, IPD-OUM and KSK would work together to provide hands-on executive skill-based training programmes as well as supply Sarawak with the manpower requirements of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

“This agreement is a momentous milestone that marks the joint efforts of ipd-oum and ksk to establish avenues for continuing professional development programmes in Malaysia, particularly in East Malaysia,” said Anuwar.

The collaboration would also include training of staff and students in areas which were relevant to the industry’s requirement and consultation in relevant areas to assist local communities in human capital development.

“Course content and the curriculum shall be jointly developed by IPD-OUM and KSK with adequate emphasis on industry requirements and stakeholder’s expectations,” said Joseph Lim Jit Sek, the chief executive officer of Kolej Sunway Kuching.

“Qualified lecturers shall be employed to teach modules in the programmes.

“IPD-OUM and KSK will identify suitable lecturers or guest lecturers to teach modules in the programmes as well as to conduct counselling sessions, seminars and workshops for students,” continued Lim.

The smart partnership would also nominate its representatives to participate in the Academic Advisory Council and to provide inputs from an industry perspective for the continuous updating of the curriculum and course content of the programmes.

“In order to accelerate the state economic growth and development, we will definitely need to nurture more skilled professionals,” added Lim.

Students who had successfully completed the programmes would be awarded the Career Certificate and or Executive Diploma respectively by IPD-OUM and KSK with a joint logo.

The programmes would also be marketed through advertisements, participation in exhibitions and road shows, the internet and via other appropriate means.
