SIBU: Seasoned campaigner Ahmad Abdul Kadir took the chequered flag of the Category A (Senior) of the DAIICHI Sarawak Motor Racing Championship 2012 held here yesterday.
In close second was Mohamed Azhar while Hasmari Gunari took the last podium finish.
A total of 40 racers took part in the race.
In Category B (Junior), Mohamad Nasri emerged champion with Muhamad Zulfakri in second and Mohamad Hafiz Abdul Jalil in third place.
The JCM One Make Race saw Baynision Gary Jukah winning the event with Mohamad Aliff in second place while Fazreen Mazlan had to settle for third.
The prizes presentation ceremony was officiated by Deputy Chairman of Sibu Municipal Council, Daniel Ngieng.
The event was organized by the Sarawak Automotive Racing Sport Association and sanctioned by the Automobile Association of Malaysia.
It was endorsed and supported by the Ministry of Social Development of Sarawak since 2007 and had successfully unearthed talented local riders.
Meanwhile, champion of Category A, Ahmad Abdul Kadir revealed that fitness level also played a crucial role in a race as racers need to always be fit.
For that reason alone Ahmad goes jogging everyday to ensure that he is able to stay alert and focus throughout the challenging 12 laps.
When asked on why he only starts to overtake his closest rival, Mohamed, only at the last four laps, Ahmad replied with abroad smile; “If I start to lead from the first few laps, I will have to bear immense level of pressure. This is my racing strategy to only make my move at the last few remaining laps as to reduce the level of pressure and commit fewer mistakes during the race”.
Ahmad works as a mechanic at his own workshop in Kuching and revealed that his target was the top two podium finish.
“As a full time racer, I go for race training every Saturdays and Sundays,” added Ahmad who had competed at the ‘Asian Cub Prix 2009’ in Indonesia and ‘Asian Cub Prix 2010’ in Malaysia.
