TAWAU: DAP Sabah publicity secretary Chan Foong Hin has asked Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) to make a clear stand before the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants is set up.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to announce the setting up of the RCI when he visits the state next month.
Chan said though DAP Sabah welcomed the setting up of the RCI on illegals, it must come with a solution and result.
He said according to the opinion poll conducted by Merdeka Centre, 88 per cent of voters in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang wanted the RCI to be set up.
“The government should address this issue immediately and not to disappoint the people again,” he said.
“PBS is asked to make a clear stand that if Najib does not announce the setting up of the RCI during the harvest festival, will PBS leave BN to show its sincerity to the people?” he asked.
“Secondly, if RCI was announced, PBS should clarify RCI’s criteria and authority to resolve the problem of illegals in Sabah.
“Thirdly, if the BN government could not fulfill the expectation of the RCI, will PBS be brave enough to object?
“And finally, if the RCI report is published but the authorities never take action on it, will PBS leave BN?” he asked.
He said PBS as a party that represents Sabahan interest in the Barisan Nasional should be brave and speak for Sabahans.
Chan challenged PBS leaders to make their stand clear on the questions above.
“This is the last war of dignity for PBS. They should stand up and show their courage to the people,” Chan concluded.
