Chambers to hold Gawai Kaamatan celebration

PENAMPANG: The KadazanDusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (DCCI) 6th joint Gawai Kaamatan celebration will be held fron June 22 to 23 this year.

KCCI publicity committee chairman Pius Jaua said this year, DCCI will host the two-day celebration which will be held in Kuching, Sarawak.

He said DCCI president Tan Sri Leo Moggie and his KCCI counterpart Alli Matajam will both be in attendance including several government and local dignitaries from Sabah and Sarawak.

The objective of the joint celebration is to bring members of the two chambers together in merry making and also to serve as a platform for cultural exchanges and business networking, said Pius in a press conference here yesterday.

“The highlights of the celebration would be the parade of the Kaamatan’s Unduk Ngadau and Kumang Gawai of the Dayak as well as the ‘sumazau’ and ‘ngajat’ dances.

“The delegation from Sabah will be arranging to bring along traditional food and beverages like the ‘hinava’ and ‘pinasakan’ as well as ‘lihing’ and ‘montoku’ to match the ‘umai’ and ‘tuak’ of Sarawak ,” he said.
