KOTA KINABALU: A group who called themselves Gang Botak and believed to be involved in seven burglary cases was crippled by the police with the arrest of six of its members, including an illegal immigrant.

The arrest was made following a house burglary case at Taman Harmony in Inanam on April 20, said deputy city police chief Superintendent M. Chandra.

The suspects allegedly stole two vehicles, namely a Toyota Vios and a Perodua Alza, and jewelries all valued at RM130,000.

“Continuous investigation then led police to raid a house at Kampung Cenderamata in Likas on May 16.

“The 5pm raid saw six men, including the mastermind and an illegal immigrant, aged 20 and 35, arrested on suspicion of being involved in the case,” he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

According to Chandra, the stolen Perodua Alza car was recovered at Country Heights in Penampang.

He said police also believed the suspects were involved in seven other house burglary cases, including the recent burglary case at Taman Harmony.

“Police believe we have solved seven house breaking cases with the arrest of all the suspects.

“However, we will continue our investigation to determine if there are others involved with this group as well as to recover other stolen items,” he said.

The suspects are currently being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which under the provision carries a jail term of up to 14 years and liable to a fine or whipping on conviction.
