Woman killed in hit-and-run

Police carrying out investigation at the scene as family members crowd around the victim’s body.

KOTA KINABALU: A 50-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run incident along Jalan Tanjung Lipat, in the vicinity Anjung Selera yesterday morning.

The victim, identified as Andinangka Petagali, succumbed to serious head and body injuries after she was knocked by a four-wheel-drive vehicle while crossing the road from Kampung Likas towards Anjung Selera around 7am.

She was thrown off a couple of meters to the sidewalk with the vehicle speeding off without stopping.

It is said that after she was knocked by the vehicle, Andinangka still managed to stand up and walked about 30 metres from the scene before collapsing to the ground.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy city police chief Superintendent M. Chandra, when contacted yesterday confirmed the incident and said police are still carrying out investigation.

“The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“The victim’s body has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem and her family members have been notified of the incident,” he said.

Chandra also urged eyewitness of the incident to immediately come forward to assist police in their investigation.
