Centre conducts children holiday programme

KUCHING: With your kids at home, are you looking for something fulfilling for them to do?

Anna Cake Training Centre is starting their two-week Children Holiday programme today. It is a thrice weekly programme where they will learn how to bake cookies and cupcakes, and make pudding and jelly.

In addition, they will have the opportunity to work with fondant and sugarcraft, creating figurines that can be used for decorating cakes.

The classes will run from 2.00pm to 4.30pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

According to centre director Anna Bong, the classes can be conducted in a mixture of English, Malay and Mandarin depending on what her students are comfortable with.

There will be another session of the Holiday Programme for children during the year-end holiday is in November, she added.

In addition to short courses, the training centre also holds a diploma course for those who want to pursue baking as a serious hobby or as a career.

The Business Bakery Course is available to both full time (6-8 months) and part time students (8-10 months). Those who want to bake for themselves can enrol in the three necessary modules – bread making, cake making and pastry making. The fees include the ingredients.

For those who are pursing baking on a more serious level can move on to the decorating courses. They fall into three categories – Basic Cake Decoration (elementary), Animal Piping Decoration (Intermediate) and Taiwan Style Decoration (Advanced). The fees do not include the ingredients.

The Business Bakery Course is suitable for SPM school leavers and working adults. The next intake is on June 5. Those who are interested in taking short courses in specific skills also have many options to choose from – Nyonya Kueh, Hong Kong dim sum, layer cake , cheesecake, cookies, and Chinese pastry.

For decoration skills, the courses available are Cartoon Sugarcraft and Wedding Cake decoration. There is also a Chinese cooking course.

The training centre also has an ingredient shop for both students and members of the public.
