Don’t go against government – Jainab

KOTA KINABALU: Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid reminded the people not to act against the government only because of certain issues.

Speaking at a fund-raising dinner of Persatuan Khidmat Bakti Masyarakat Kota Kinabalu on Sunday, Jainab said the people have to open their minds by not simply thinking of changing the present government only because of the contentious issues related to the increase in the price of goods.

She urged the people to look at the overall scenario where the government has brought about voluminous economic and social changes through its various development programmes.

She added the poor and the hardcore poor are recipients of government assistance, and at the same time the people have been afforded with the opportunity to attend courses to enable them to start their own businesses.

The government has plans to introduce a two-week maternity course, according to Jainab, but she did not elaborate.

She commended the welfare work carried out by the association through fund-raising activities without getting help from the government.

Jainab later presented financial contributions from the association to welfare bodies representing the needy students, the orphans and single mothers.

Also present were the president of Khidmat Bakti Masyarakat Kota Kinabalu Association, Sam Wong and organising chairman Mohd Affendy Iman Shah.
