LIMBANG: Five men including two foreigners have been detained after testing positive for syabu during Ops Tapis at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Tedungan area last Friday.

Fourteen police personnel headed by ASP Anuar Md Ghazali detained the suspects.

Limbang District police chief, Acting Superintendent Mohd Bukhori Saffai when contacted confirmed the case.

He said a total of 72 people had their urine tested, including drivers entering Limbang.

“Results of the test showed five were positive for Syabu and they are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Action 1952,” he said.

The five suspects, in their 30s, nevertheless have no previous criminal convictions.

“We will continue to monitor and conduct operations against all suspected criminal activities including drug abuse or trafficking,” said Mohd Bukhori who urged the public to cooperate by giving useful information to the police.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, a man in his 20s was detained during a raid of a premise here.

“During the raid led by Inspector Ruben yesterday a suspect was nabbed, and seven computers, believed used for online gambling, confiscated.

“The suspect, a worker at the centre was overseeing some others believed to be engrossed with gambling. He is being investigated under Section 4B (a) Common Gaming House Act 1953,” Mohd Bukhori said.

He added that the raid was the culmination of surveillance by the police for almost a week.
