TENOM: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the state government is grateful to KPD and OISCA for providing skills training to youths to enable them to venture into the agriculture sector.

He said the collaboration between KPD and OISCA is a smart move between a government agency and an international non-governmental organisation, and he hoped other government agencies would emulate this kind of cooperation.

“We need a workforce that not only has the skills or knowledge but also the work ethics, culture and discipline as the Japanese are famous for,” he said when launching the OISCA-KPD Youth Training Centre administrative building at Lagud Sebrang here yesterday.

According to Musa, a large portion in this year’s State Budget is channeled to government agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry to develop the agriculture sector.

This includes the provision of substantial allocation for infrastructure, research and development of human capital to ensure Sabah has a trained and highly skilled workforce, he said.

“What is important is training centers equipped with various facilities should be fully utilized by the trainers, the people and local communities to accelerate agricultural development in the state.

“We also want our youths to acquire the knowledge and expertise in order to be the future leaders of this state,” he said.

At the event, Musa also witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the state government and OISCA International Japan, and presented appreciation certificates to several leaders of OISCA.

He also witnessed the handing over of agricultural machinery by Kazuma Yamashita to Datu Basrun, and later visited the OISCA farms and the new office buildings.
