Is Wong Judat eyeing Julau?

Julau parliamentary constituency is a PRS seat but Wong is vice president of SPDP!

KUCHING: Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat appears to be harbouring the hope of contesting in Julau under Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) ticket, judging by his latest comments.

Wong is a vice president of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), a component of Barisan Nasional (BN), and for him to contest in the Julau parliamentary constituency he will have to leave SPDP and join SWP.

This is because Julau is allocated to another BN component, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and that being the case there is no chance for him or SPDP to contest under BN ticket there. The incumbent is PRS vice-president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, who is a federal deputy minister.

When contacted yesterday Wong claimed: “There is nothing wrong for me to contest in Julau because SWP is also pro-BN. It all depends on two things, firstly the people in Julau and the reality on the ground.”

He also responded to a public query on whether he was paving the way for SWP to merge with SPDP.

“There is nothing wrong if they (SWP and SPDP) want to merge one day. SWP is also pro-BN,” he claimed.

When asked about his presence at the SWP dinner in Sibu on Monday night Wong said: “I only ‘ngabang’ (visiting),”

Wong also spoke at the dinner which SWP president Larry Sng hosted.  About 3,000 people attended the dinner.

During the dinner Wong told the press that he was disappointed with Salang as well as PRS deputy president Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun for not giving face to SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom when they flatly rejected Mawan’s reconciliation efforts in Julau by not even sending representatives to sit down and talk with Mawan.

Instead they added insult to injury by saying that only he (Wong) had to make amends and apologise, he added.
