Police arrest four men, recover 43 stolen vehicles in raid

SHAH ALAM: Police arrested four men and recovered 43 stolen vehicles in a raid on an old factory at Simpang Empat, Taiping, Perak on Saturday.

Selangor deputy police chief Datuk A Thaiveegan said the raiding party found 800 lorry and car doors, 16 cars and 27 lorries hidden in the premise.

“The raid followed the theft of a lorry in Rawang at 4am the same day. The lorry owner informed police and followed his stolen lorry until Taiping where it was abandoned.

“Police then saw several men in three cars arrive and took the stolen lorry to Simpang Empat,” he told a press conference at Selangor police contingent here yesterday.

Thaiveegan said the four men arrested were local and a Bangladeshi aged between 20 and 31 years who were busy dismantling components of stolen vehicles.

Initial investigation found that the syndicate was using the old factory to mislead authorities and hide the vehicles stolen in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Police believed that the syndicate was responsible for losses worth more than RM1 million.

Thaiveegan said the suspects were remanded until tomorrow and the case is  investigated under Section 379 (A) of Penal Code which provides for maximum seven years’ jail and fine .
