PUTRAJAYA: A member of the administration such as a minister, deputy minister or parliamentary secretary should make a declaration if a close family member applies for government facilities such as soft loans, said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Sutinah Sutan.

In making the suggestion, she said it would boost transparency and accountability.

“The proposal is one of seven submitted to the Finance Ministry in April to improve the procedures in giving soft loans,” she told reporters here.

She said the proposal was based on the loopholes which cropped up after an examination on the practice, system and procedure in giving a soft loan of RM250 million to National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFCorp) for the National Feedlot (NFC) project.

Sutinah said MACC had also proposed that the Finance Ministry provide a clearer and more transparent procedure on the process of giving soft loans to cut down the possibility of misappropriation.

She said the Agriculture and Agro-based Ministry must also study the background of a company and its capability before handing it a project. — BERNAMA
