King, queen attend trooping of colours

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di- Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Haminah yesterday attended the trooping of the colours at Sungai Besi army camp here.

The event, paying of homage and expression of loyalty by the armed forces to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, was held in conjunction with the birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also attended the event.

The trooping of the colours involved 22 officers and 586 men of the three services of the armed forces and was led by the commanding offi cer of the 19th battalion Royal Malay Regiment, Lt Col Mohd Suria Mohd Saad.

Upon their arrival, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong were greeted by a Royal Salute by the parade, after which the Negaraku was played as a 21-gun salute was fired.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong took the salute before a guard-ofhonour mounted by officers and men from the three services of the armed forces as its aircraft did a flypast.

Five armed force helicopters comprising Nuri, Augusta, Fennec and Alloute, participated in the flypast bearing the flags of Malaysia, the armed forces, the army, navy and airforce.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, accompanied by Chief of Defence Forces Gen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, inspected the guardof honour. The trooping of the colours was executed in full military tradition, in slow and fast tempo, and fi nally paying homage with three shouts of ‘Daulat Tuanku’ (Long Live the King).

The ceremony ended with the reading of the ‘doa’ by armed force religious corp director Brig- Gen Datuk Mustafa Abd Manap.

Before leaving, the Yang di- Pertuan Agong took the salute before the guard-of-honour as five armed force aircraft did a flypast.

The armed force central band under the command of Capt Mohd Sobri Mohamed Isa performed several patriotic songs during the event.
