KOTA KINABALU: Angkatan Amanah Merdeka (Amanah), Sabah chapter will fight to resolve the perennial issues affecting the State namely the Malaysia Agreement, 20 Points, cabotage policy and Native Customary Rights (NCR) to ensure the sovereignty of Sabahans and Malaysians as a whole are protected.

Speaking at the launching of Amanah Sabah chapter at Kian Kok hall yesterday,Amanah Sabah Chairman Datuk Wilfred Bumburing, who is also Tuaran Member of Parliament, said he was happy with the efforts made by Amanah president Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, as a veteran leader for leading this NGO as a platform to re-ignite the Bapa Malaysia’s vision.

“Bapa Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman dreamt of an united nation based on sincerity. He believed that all Malaysians regardless of religion, race and culture are capable of being united with the Malaysian Spirit only if we were sincere to one another,” he said.

Bumburing who also Amanah Malaysia deputy president stated that the Malaysia Agreement and 20 Points must be respected by present leaders and not ignored or denied as both agreements are the legacy, promise and ideals of Bapa Malaysia.

Speaking to some 500 Amanah Sabah chapter members, the Tuaran Member of Parliament also said it is important for Amanah to function as an NGO so that its members can voice out their opinion without being restricted under the political parties.

He said Sabah is a rich state because of its natural resources, but the basic infrastructures are still in a lackadaisical state, which is not acceptable by the people.

“Sabah has been called a fixed deposit by some leaders, but the interest that we are getting is too little.

“If we are not happy with the low interest, I guess we have the option to transfer our deposit to another bank,” he said.

Commenting on the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the setting up of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI)  on Friday, Bumburing questioned why the announcement took him a few months, eventhough it has been approved in the cabinet meeting.

He said setting up of the RCI alone is not enough if the unqualified voters in Sabah’s electoral rolls are not cleaned before the next general election.

During the launching Bumburing also announced Amanah Sabah chapter  has 3,700 members from throughout the State, and an awareness campaign will be carried out in every district to explain the role of the NGO.

He said all political leaders from the BN and opposition parties are also allowed to join the NGO.

“Whoever is against the Amanah movement, means thay are against the legacy of Bapa Malaysia and The Founding Fathers of Malaysia,” he said.

Amanah Sabah chapter was launched by Tengku Razaleigh. In attendance were  Amanah Malaysia deputy presidents Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and Datu Amir Kahar Tun Mustapha, deputy Housing and Local Government minister Datuk Lajim Ukin, Amanah Malaysia vice presidents Tan Sri Simon Sipaun and Mohd Lukhman Ghani.
