RANAU: A wedding reception held at the Giring-Giring Hall yesterday turned tragic when a 16-year-old attacked the bride’s brother, causing the latter to die of neck injuries.
The victim, identified as Rudi Saidi, 35, died on the way to Ranau Hospital due to serious neck injuries.
The suspect and the victim were believed to be dancing at the reception when the former complained to the victim of bumping him on his shoulders.
An argument ensued and the suspect was believed to have attacked the victim, causing the latter to drop to the floor.
Concerned guests immediately rushed the victim to Ranau Hospital, who died on the way, while the suspect was said to have attempted to flee from the scene.
The victim’s demise prompted the family members to lodge a police report immediately after the incident.
Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Omar Mammah confirmed the incident, saying that a team from the CID in Ranau district police rushed to the scene to investigate.
The suspect was arrested at Kampung Nampasan Lama around 2.30am, he said, adding that the police had also recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the incident.
A post-mortem will be conducted and the case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code, for murder.
