KUCHING: Peter John Jaban has admitted to his employer Radio Free Sarawak (RFS) and colleagues  that he is “running away” as he fears the police after being questioned at Kota Kinabalu airport before flying to Miri on Gawai eve with the aim of meeting his family.

Citing that he feared potential ‘police brutality’, Peter told his colleagues at RFS that he would only go to a police station with his lawyers by his side.

He also admitted to a news portal that he had acted abruptly by leaving PKR’s Dr Michael Teo and Piasau assemblyman Alan Ling to go with three other ‘Good Samaritans’ on May 31.

The ex-radio deejay and RFS anchorman said he felt better lying low. But PKR Sarawak is still anxious over the disappearance of the RFS announcer who has gone missing since June 1.

State PKR vice-chairman See Chee How said they too had no lead on the whereabouts of Peter.

See said RFS had issued a statement saying that Peter was well and freely roaming the streets of Miri.

“I will be meeting Peter’s sister soon to clarify this,” said See, who hoped that Peter would contact his family members. Yesterday, Peter’s father Jaban said Peter’s alleged disappearance in Miri was the only news the family had of Peter.

“I have not seen him for two years,” said Jaban who lives in Jalan Dato Mohd Musa (old Muara Tuang Road) in Kota Samarahan. He said he hoped one day Peter would come to his senses and take days off from RFS to visit them, especially on festive occasions.
