Company supervisor charged with trafficking of Indonesian women

KUALA LUMPUR: A company supervisor pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to three counts of trafficking three Indonesian women by forcing them to work as prostitutes.

Cheow Kian Feng @ Cheow Kian Koon, 43, from Taman Daya Kepong, is charged with trafficking in the three women for exploitation at No 5, 11th Floor, Season Tower, Jalan Horley, Dang Wangi here between 10.38am and noon last May 15.

The charges were made under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking In Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 which provided a maximum imprisonment for 15 years and also liable to a fine, if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Ashiqin Zulkifli, who prosecuted, offered bail at RM30,000 with one surety for all three charges.

However, Cheow’s lawyer, Wan A Fadzil Wan Omar, requested for a lower bail on grounds that his client had three school-going children.

Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid allowed Cheow bail of RM15,000 with one surety for all the charges and set July 5 for mention.
