June 12 for re-mention of Indian nationals’ drug trafficking cases

KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here yesterday set June 12, this year for re-mention of the drug trafficking cases of two Indian nationals.

High Court Judicial Commissioner Lee Hen Cheong set the date for the next mention of the drug trafficking cases of Eswaran Susop and Jaswant Singh Ranjit Singh, both aged 21, pending a Tamil interpreter.

No plea was taken from both accused who are represented by counsel PJ Perira.

Eswaran is accused of trafficking in 770.9g of Syabu about 1pm on March 18, this year, at the arrival hall of Terminal Two, LCCT in Tanjung Aru here while Jaswant is accused of trafficking in 780.2g Syabu at the same place and day about 1.05pm.

Each of the charges under Section 39B(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for the mandatory death sentence on conviction.

Eswaran and Jaswant from Johor Baharu are currently remanded under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code pending disposal of the case as the alleged offence provides no bail.
