RARING TO GO: Bodybuilders from Sibu Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Association (SBWA) who will be competing in this year’s Mr Sarawak championship in Kuching from June 9 to 10 posing for a group with their team officials.

SIBU: Sibu Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Association (SBWA) is confident of bringing home at least three gold, a silver and a bronze at this year’s Mr Sarawak Bodybuilding Championship to be held in Kuching from June 9 to 10.

“Anything more than that is a bonus and we can attain our target” SBWA Gym master Thomas Lee told the Borneo Post when contacted recently.

According to him, SBWA is sending seven bodybuilders to compete in the two-day championship.

The selected musclemen are winners from the recent Mr Sibu 2012 Bodybuilding contest including last year’s Mr Borneo cum former Mr Malaysia 2010 second runner-up, Fong Hui Kong.

Fong, who is Mr Sibu winner in 2009, 2010 and 2011, will be competing in the lightweight category.

Lee believed Fong, a seasoned bodybuilder with more than 10 years experience, had a good chance to win.

According to him, Fong skipped last year’s championship because he was not fully prepared mentally and physically for the prestigious event.

For the coming event, SBWA will be represented by Akmal Linggie Sini (bantamweight), Tiong Cheong Soon (lightweight), Lu Khim Kok (welterweight), Mohd Khairul (lightmiddle), Mohd Nukiman (Novice – 70kg & below) and Musa Hanafi (Novice – 70kg and above).

Sibu’s contingent will be led SBWA president Chia Soon Cheong, Thomas Lee and team manager Roy Chan.

“Our team is fully prepared this time round and we are not going just to make up the numbers…we are going there to win titles” said a confident Lee.

Last year, Sibu returned with two gold and three bronze medals from the championship held in Miri and the gold medallists were Kong Teck Leong in the Junior category (below 21 years old) and Ling Neng Lung in the Master’s category.

The bronze medallists were Akmal Linggie (bantam weight), Tiong Cheong Soon (lightweight) and Leslie Lin (welterweight)

Lee said SBWA is expecting stiff challenges from Kuching and Miri who will be represented by experienced bodybuilders in the annual event.

“They have some of the big names in the bodybuilding fraternity but all the same, my boys will go all out to ensure that they will be a force to be reckoned with” he enthused.
