FMM to organise briefing on GS1 system

KUCHING: The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) is arranging a briefing for local companies on the global standard language (GS1) of numbering and coding for their products at at the FMM Sarawak office, level 5 Wisma STA on July 12, 2012.

The FMM said that, “The global standard language is vital especially among global trading partners as is a critical factor in obtaining successful results in any business.” “The GS1 is a global standard item numbering and bar coding which is adopted worldwide by over one million companies across all industries.

“It is important for identification of trade items, data capture and electronic communications between companies.” The FMM elaborated that more companies were now required to implement the system on their packaging as the bar coding played a key role in improving business operations by enabling the business to track and trace the sales anytime.

“The systems not only make trade easier as the trace enables companies to check the items that are delivered but also helps reduce cost and time,” the FMM noted.

The briefing will provide companies with the knowledge on how businesses can avoid costly mistakes by having a bar code that can be scanned anytime anywhere.

New GS1 Malaysia members, bar code coordinators, key officers, quality control personnel, marketing managers and anyone responsible for the correct implementation of the item identification and bar codes within the company are encouraged to join the briefing.

The registration is RM80 for GS1 subscribers and RM120 for non GS1 subscribers.

The briefings will be conducted nationwide at its Perak branch on June 12, Penang branch on June 13, Kedah branch on June 14, Sabah branch on July 10, Sarawak branch on July 12 and Johor branch on September 13.
