KUALA KANGSAR: Twenty-two secondary schools from seven countries will participate in the 5th Malay College Youth Development Summit 2012 to be hosted by the Malay College of Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) on June 17 to 25.
MCKK Principal Anand Baharuddin said during the summit, the students from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Philippine, India and Pakistan would discuss and exchange their best practices for mutual benefit.
“Themed ‘World Peace Begins In School’, the summit is the best platform to produce human capital of high quality who will one day lead the country,” he told Bernama when contacted here yesterday.
He said the summit was also aimed at giving the students the opportunity to interact with their counterparts and discuss relevant matters to improve youth development at their respective schools.
Ten foreign schools and 12 local schools, including MCKK, will be involved in the summit, he said.
Anand said each school would be represented by three student leaders.
“However, as the host, MCKK will lure more students to participate in the event, not only as participants, but also as leaders in various activities lined-up in conjunction with the summit.
“This will give our students the opportunity to prove their ability to lead others,” he said.
Anand said the summit would also, inadvertently, guide the MCKK students to develop and create towering personality, high competitiveness and global mindset, as well as improve their discipline in line with the objective of the national key result areas (NKRA).
He said the director-general of Education Tan Sri Abdul Ghafar Mahmud was expected to open the summit.
“Two honourable guests who already confirmed their participations in two dialogues with the students are Tunku Zain Al’Abidin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz and the president of MCKK Parents-Teacher Association, Ahmad Redza Ahmad Khairuddin,” he said. — Bernama
