Vincent Chai, Grace Chang win Chinese Chess tourney

KUCHING: Vincent Chai of Chung Hua Middle School (CHMS) No.1 brought home RM150 after defeating opponents in the secondary school boy category of the recent DBKU Chinese chess competition.

First runner-up Lim Huey Chern of SMK Sungai Maong bagged RM120 and second runner-up Wong Chung Seng of CHMS No.4 won RM90.

Placed fourth, Ong Sie Siong of SMK Batu Lintang was awarded RM70. They also received a trophy each. Six consolation prizes went to Kenneth Sim of CHMS No.1, Jee Yi Kang (SMK Kuching High), Terence Ting (CHMS No.1), Kua Tek Sin (CHMS No.1), Tan Yon Hui (CHMS No.1) and Teo Wei Lun (CHMS No.1).

They were each given a hamper and a plaque.

In the secondary school girl category, champion Grace Chang of SMK Sungai Maong walked away with RM150.

Lau Yuen Hie and Audrey Hong, both of CHMS No.1 were the first and second runner-up, winning RM120 and RM90 respectively.

Chok Yean Xuan of SMK Sungai Maong was the fourth-place winner to receive RM60. All of them were given a trophy each.

Andy Lai of Chung Hua Primary School (CHPS) No.6, who emerged champion in the primary school category was awarded RM100.

First runner-up Gavin Chong of SJK Tapah won RM80 and second runner-up Miguel Then of CHPS No.1 was given RM70.

Chin Hau Zen of SJK Chung Hua Batu 4 1/2 was placed fourth and given RM60. They brought home a trophy each.

Jee Yi Cheng of SJK Chung Hua Stapok, Alice Chang (CHPS No.6), Dennis Chan (SJK Sam Hap Hin), Fan Yun Hui (SJK Tapah), Lai Jian Yiet (SJK Tapah) and Vincent Chieng (CHPS No.5) were the consolation winners.

They each received a hamper and a plaque.
