SIBU: A man caught a break-in thief with the help of his brother and neighbours on Friday night.

The man, surnamed Tiang of Lane 3, Lada Road here, said no one was at home when the thief struck.

His brother, who lives next door, was not at home too.

“When my brother arrived home, he spotted a man in his car at the car porch. The man refused to come out,” he said, adding that he returned home when he was informed of the incident.

The two siblings then armed themselves with a wooden plank and demanded the thief to come out from the car.

Later, with the help of neighbours, they managed to get hold of the thief by 11:30pm and handed him over to the Lanang police.

When asked how the thief could enter the car, the brother said the vehicle was not locked.

Tiang revealed that CCTV footage showed that the thief wearing only a pair of pants and slippers was already discovered at his brother’s house at 9.30pm.

“The thief was seen kicking a side door and a back door attempting to gain entry but failed to force (the door) open,” he said.

After he (thief) could not enter my brother’s house, Tiang said the man climbed over to his house and did the same kicking his door but also failed to gain entry.

“Then, he returned to my brother’s house again and kicked the doors but all the attempts were futile,” he said.

The thief whom police said had previous records of arrest was placed under a four-day remand until June 13.

Tiang urged the police to conduct more patrols to beef up security at the Grand Heights area where break-in and theft cases were rampant.
