SIBU: The annual Sibu Badminton Association (SBA) Challenge Cup 2012 to be held at SMK Sacred Heart Centenary Hall from June 18-24, is now open for entries.
SBA secretary Thomas Tieng said at a press conference that attractive cash prizes were up for grabs.
The champion team will receive RM1,000 while the first runner-up gets RM500 and the second runner-up, RM250.
SBA president Datuk Lau Cheng Kiong, treasurer Yong King Sung and committee member Philip Kong were among those at the press conference.
Tieng expected no fewer than 10 teams for the tournament.
“If we fail to get the minimum eight teams, we may have to cancel the tournament,” he said.
Each team may register a maximum of eight players who must be from Kanowit, Sibu, Mukah, Dalat, Meradong or Sarikei, according to their addresses in their Mykads.
The competition will be run on group basis with the top two teams in each group advancing to the next round. Each team format will be played on three doubles and a player is only allowed to play once in any tie.
“Each team shall have only one seeded player, the names as provided in the SBA list, and the listed player must play in the first double in the team format,” said Ting.
Entry fee is RM200 per team. Entries must be submitted to Yong King Sung at Lau & Ling, No 1, Central Road.
